72 hours. No rush.

Day 1: Arrive. Don’t unpack just yet. Let the evening find you before you find your room. Dinner by the fire.

Day 2: Wake up without an alarm. Walk through Ekaant. Chase the sunset. Stay for the stars.

Day 3: Linger a little longer. Breathe a little deeper. Gather around a traditional chulha for one last slow meal.

Book 3 nights and let the mountains work at their own pace. 🤍

The easiest way to transform a place is to add to it.

The harder—and far more rewarding—way is to first understand it.

This 0.5-acre land taught us that the land already has its own rhythm. Sunlight, water, soil, slopes, and seasons all have a say in what eventually grows.

All we could do was nurture it.

Two years later, it’s not just greener. It’s more alive—with butterflies, bees, dragonflies, birds, and hundreds of native trees and plants.

The land gave us far more than we ever planned for.

The Listening Room at Shoonya.

At different times of the day, it becomes something entirely different. A reading nook. A music corner. A place for long conversations. A front-row seat to the rain. Or simply a spot to sit and watch the mountains change with the light.

Its glass walls blur the line between indoors and outdoors, making it feel less like a room and more like an extension of the landscape.

Guests have given it many names over the past months. Some call it the Music Room, some the Glass Room.

We don’t mind what you call it.

We only hope it becomes a place where you slow down long enough to hear what the mountains have been saying all along.

When people ask us how we built Shoonya, they’re usually expecting a story about architecture—or a dream of building a stay.

But that’s not really how it began.

It began with a simple intention: to help others experience this place the way we had.

And somewhere along the way, we realised: this place didn’t need more rooms.
It needed more ways to experience it.

So Shoonya was never designed around occupancy. It was designed around what happens when you step outside your room.

A traditional fire kitchen where meals become memories. Walkways that slow you down. A deck that invites you to look up at the stars. Spaces to create, to converse, to play, to pause—and sometimes, to simply do nothing at all.

Because we didn’t build the beauty.

The mountains were always here.

We simply imagined new ways to experience them—and built spaces that help others pause, notice, and absorb what was already here.

Every monsoon, the hills are reduced to the same headlines—landslides, roadblocks, and “don’t travel.”

Yes, the mountains demand a little more respect this time of year. But they don’t become off-limits overnight.

A quick fact-check with your stay, keeping an eye on the weather, and planning your journey wisely is often all it takes to understand what the conditions are *actually* like.

And if you do come, don’t come with a long sightseeing checklist.

Come to watch the clouds roll in and out of the valleys. To listen to the birds after the rain. To sip your chai while the forest disappears into the mist and reappears again.

Monsoon isn’t the season to chase the mountains.

It’s the season to let the mountains come to you. 🌿☁️

May and June at Shoonya. ☘️

The mountains are at their busiest. Families escape the summer heat, roads fill with travellers, and viewpoints buzz with people chasing Himalayan sunrises.

And then there are those who come here for something quieter.

To wake up to cool mornings, linger over long breakfasts, read a few pages, watch clouds drift by, and let the days unfold at their own pace.

Three years into building Shoonya, we’ve begun to understand the rhythm of this place a little better—the orchards, the blooms, the people, and the seasons they live by.

So when our neighbours began harvesting this year’s fruit, we brought home baskets of plums, peaches, and apricots. 🍑They slowly found their way into jars, becoming homemade jams that now make their way to your breakfast table.

Perhaps that’s our favourite part of every season here.

Not just witnessing it, but preserving a little of it—so every guest gets to taste the mountains exactly as they are, one season at a time.

The audacity of an agenda-less afternoon —
of protecting time that yields nothing,
and wasting it beautifully.

Inspired by an interview in @byooooob about protecting the illogical joys of making things when the business of creativity demands sanitised outcomes and calendar invites.

Human beings seem to thrive when they have the space to know themselves, the kindness to accept themselves, and the freedom to create.

Yet so much of modern life asks us to keep moving.

From one task to the next.
One destination to the next.
One thought to the next.

Shoonya was created as a gentle counterpoint to that.

A place where there is no pressure to be productive, entertained, or transformed.

Just space.

Space for long walks and longer conversations.

Space to create without judgement.

Space to read, sing, explore, wonder, and connect.

Space to sit with a cup of tea and watch the clouds drift by.

Maybe the reason these memories move us isn’t because they’re gone.

It’s because we’re reminded of how alive we feel when we’re fully present.

And sometimes, all we need is a little space to return to that.

Over the years, we’ve created the spaces—the rooms, the gardens, the pathways, the meals, the little corners meant for slowing down. But what we’ve come to realise is that the feeling of Shoonya isn’t something we can create on our own.

It’s created by the people who spend time here.

By the conversations that unfold over endless cups of tea. By strangers who become friends. By laughter drifting through the gardens. By quiet moments of reflection. By children running around barefoot. By someone pausing to photograph a flower, a meal, a view, or simply a feeling they don’t want to forget.

Every guest leaves behind a little bit of their energy, and somehow that becomes part of the place.

These photographs are a glimpse of the Shoonya you helped create.

And for that, we’re grateful. 🤍
